My genre.
The genre that I have chosen is Grime. Grime is a genre of music that began on pirate radios in East London in the early 2000s. The artists who originally introduced London to grime are people like Skepta, Wiley, Dizzee Rascal etc. Some of the big radio stations that played grime were Raw Mission and Rinse FM. Nowadays, the biggest grime channel on TV is called Channel AKA, which plays the music of the biggest grime artists out now like Stormzy, Chipmunk, Skepta (and the rest of the Boy Better Know grime crew).Grime is a combination of other genres such as Dancehall, UK Garage and drum and bass. In the mid-late 2000s, grime began spreading all throughout the UK to major cities like Birmingham, Manchester etc. One major grime artist now, whose career exploded after his recent beef with Chipmunk, is Bugzy Malone from Manchester. In 2015/2016, grime became really popular in the USA due to the likes of Stormzy's 'Shut Up', which was a hit in the UK charts and really well shared on social media sites. Also, Skepta's album Konnichiwa entered the UK charts at number 2. Because of this, grime became really popular in the USA, especially by well known rappers like A$AP Mob members like A$AP Nast and Young Lord. Also, Skepta recently signed Drake to his label Boy Better Know. Grime is now a well-recognised genre of music all around the world. In fact Stormzy is currently on tour going all around the world and is due to perform in Australia, California and Canada.
